“Out-fit-In” - ‘OUTFITING’ leaders IN new spaces

I focus on equipping leaders who find themselves operating in new business environments that are materially different from thier exisiting experience. This can include new countries, cultures, functional and technical specialisations as well as business environments.

Leaders who find themselves in such new environments are confronted with a host of new thorny challenges. Navigating these points of difference while trying to establish leadership credibility can represent a major test for even the most seasoned leader.

I seek to help “outfit” leaders who find themselves in this situation with tools, techniques and thinking to succeed as they begin to perform in such roles

Leadership in a new country - a new culture

International business leaders are usually required to operate in a number of countries over their career.

To succeed, technical know-how is an essential - but not sufficient - condition. Cultural Intelligence, flexibility of style and a willingness to adapt are all elements that define the successful, internationally mobile leader.

Coaching can be a support resource to help navigate the cultural intricacies and traps for international leaders.

The Technical Expert in a new Leadership role

Most technical organisations hold their core skills as a key ingredient to leadership. Highly skilled experts are rightly valued and encouraged to take on bigger roles within the organisation.

However, as these technical experts climb, the skills that served them so well now become less important. Leadership brings new challenges: working across new functions, handling a number of different team and influencing, motivating and engaging internal and external parties.

Coaching can help bridge the gap from technical expert to big leader.

The “non-technical” leader in a technical company

All large businesses have leaders from areas that provide functional support - Communications, PR, HR, External Affairs and Media Management. Many of these leaders will not be technical experts in the core purpose of the business but remain critical to strategic delivery.

The need to translate and navigate in a technical space can create specific challenges. A coach can help support the integration of such resources.

Leading with diversity

The global workplace requires expert handling of difference. Managing and leading across cultures, gender, geographic location and nationalities requires cultural and emotional intelligence.

Developing strategies, managing your reactions and pre/mis-conceptions and harnessing the power of difference in teams are all areas where a coach can help the global executive.
